J. David Nunneley, Figurative Sculptor
J. David Nunneley’s path to becoming an artist is quite typical of many others in his field in that he earned his early income in areas outside the field of art.
Nunneley majored in Art at the University of Oklahoma and Tulsa University with advanced training in sculpture at the Loveland Academy of Art in Loveland, CO as well as the Scottsdale School of Art in Scottsdale, AZ.
Upon leaving college as a fine art major in the late 50's, he began his early career as an illustrator for a scientific instrument company, only later to start his own instrument company. Following that, he started his own oil and gas equipment company. He has been granted five U. S. patents for various oil and gas-related products and became a corporate executive as president for a subsidiary of a Pennsylvania utility company, subsequently becoming Vice President of Research and Development for a major instrument company in Tulsa, OK.
To this day, however, he considers becoming a successful full-time sculptor in 1995 his most gratifying and courageous move.
