About This Work
This tiger was sculpted as a commission for a shopping center named Tiger Mall. My research included reading many books and visiting several Public and private zoos to study the anatomy and movements of these strong and stealthy animals. I was most impressed by their stealth and quickness when one of the caretakers demonstrated this by enticing a tiger to him by rattling his fence and then turning his back to the tiger.
The tiger creeped very close to the ground, sneaking from one hiding place to another. At the very moment the caretaker turned his back, the tiger charged about 25 feet and leaped onto the cage. The caretaker explained that this was a game the tiger enjoyed playing with him. Tigers always attack their prey from behind, which explains why the Natives of countries that have tiger habitat wear mask that face the back of their head.
