About This Work
When I was a kid in grade school, we lived on a small acreage that wasn’t quite big enough to really be called a farm, but my dad tried to make it look like one anyway. About the only farm animals we seemed successful in raising were chickens, and we had about what seemed to me like a thousand of them.

My job was to gather the eggs from the hens, but I have never forgotten the roosters. They were ornery as hell! They would stick their chest out, strut around and chase the other chickens as well as me. But, in spite of their obnoxious disposition, I still think of them as a beautiful bird and I do miss hearing their early morning crow at “Sunrise.”
