About This Work
As I am of Cherokee descent, I have a true affinity for the history of all Native American tribes. This particular sculpture is not really indicative or a particular tribe - I suppose you could consider it an allegorical impression - as it was actually inspired by a childhood memory from 1946, when I spent a few weeks with my cousins one summer at my grandparent’s cabin in Keystone, OK.

Their house was located close to the river banks, where the Arkansas River meets the Cimarron, and I vividly remember two shirtless Native American boys canoeing down the river, feathers and all, when one of my cousins hollered out to them and they shot a hunting arrow toward our bank of the river. I still have that memory, but my older cousin has the arrow.
